Grab lunch and feel free to shop around the award-winning Winterset Courthouse Square retail district. If you wish, you can visit the Iowa Quilt Museum ($8/per person) or the John Wayne Birthplace & Museum ($18-20 per person).
Covered Bridges of Madison County Tour: Madison County is the Covered Bridge Capital of Iowa, with the largest group of covered bridges that exists in one area in the western half of the Mississippi Valley. The bridges gained worldwide fame through “The Bridges of Madison County” in the 1992 best-selling novel by Robert James Waller and the 1995 film starring Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. Nestled among rolling hills and scenic byways, these beautifully preserved wooden bridges capture the charm, nostalgia, and quiet beauty of small-town America and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places!

5/8 – Historical Village & Vermeer Windmill Tour:
The Vermeer Windmill,one of the tallest working windmills in North America, and the Dutch Miniature Village, built at 1:24 scale. The Wyatt Earp Experience explores the life of the famous western lawman who grew up in Pella in an audio tour you don’t want to miss! The museum is full of Pella history with 22-buildings to explore and learn about Pella’s rich Dutch heritage.
5/8 – Tulip Festival/Dutch Craft Market:
Hundreds of thousands of tulips are planted throughout the community in celebration of Pella’s Dutch heritage! Especially vibrant is the Tulip Avenue in Central Park which runs from the north fountain to the sundial. Stroll through West Market Park and enjoy 100+ booths filled with a wide variety of shopping delights. Dutch dances are performed by the Dutchesses or the Dutch Family Singers in a variety of downtown locations!
5/8 – Grandstand Show: (Optional)
The Grandstand show features Dutch dancing and singing, a Dutch costume style show, presentation of the Tulip Queen and court, street scrubbing, and more!
5/8 – Afternoon Parade: (Optional)
Featuring colorful floats, marching bands from throughout the state of Iowa, hundreds of school children dressed in Dutch costumes and several entries telling the story of Pella and its original Dutch settlers. The parades are an enjoyable activity for all ages that you won’t want to miss!
5/8 – Lighted Evening Parade:
This parade is more atmospheric than the daytime parade in many ways! The streets come alive with a dazzling display of lights, music and Dutch tradition. Watch illuminated floats, marching bands, and performers in Dutch costume create a glowing celebration of Tulip Time Charm!
5/9 – Enjoy Breakfast included at Hotel

William Florian: The Neil Diamond Story:
William Florian, former member of the famous 60’s group The New Christy Minstrels, weaves stories, songs, and humor from Diamond’s early acoustic years. You will find yourself singing along to Diamond’s most celebrated songs: ‘Song Sung Blue’, ‘Sweet Caroline’, ‘Play Me’, ‘Cherry Cherry’, and many more.
Location: Pella Opera House located right downtown where everything is! The show includes dinner.
